About Course

Course Description:

Form 4 Chemistry is an advanced high school course that builds upon the foundational concepts introduced in earlier years. It explores the structure, behavior, and transformation of matter with a strong focus on real-world applications and experimental investigation. Students deepen their understanding of chemical reactions, quantitative relationships, and the role of chemistry in industry, energy production, and environmental conservation.

This course emphasizes analytical thinking, problem-solving, and laboratory skills, preparing students for tertiary studies in science, medicine, engineering, and related fields.

Course Objectives:

By the end of the course, students should be able to:

  1. Explain and apply the gas laws governing the behavior of gases.

  2. Describe energy changes during chemical reactions and apply them in everyday contexts.

  3. Understand and perform experiments in electrochemistry and electrolysis.

  4. Analyze the properties, extraction, and uses of metals and their compounds.

  5. Explain the nature and effects of radioactivity and its safe applications.

  6. Demonstrate knowledge of organic chemistry including hydrocarbons, alcohols, and acids.

  7. Evaluate the impact of chemistry on the environment and suggest sustainable practices.

Course Components:

  • Theory Lessons: Conceptual understanding through classroom discussions, demonstrations, and multimedia.

  • Laboratory Work: Hands-on experiments to develop practical and observation skills.

  • Projects & Assignments: Application of chemistry in real-world contexts (e.g., energy, environment, industry).

  • Assessments: Continuous assessment tests, laboratory reports, and final examinations.

Expected Learning Outcomes:

Students who complete Form 4 Chemistry will be able to:

  • Apply scientific reasoning to explain natural phenomena.

  • Design and conduct safe, accurate chemical experiments.

  • Interpret data from chemical investigations.

  • Appreciate the role of chemistry in everyday life, technology, and sustainable development.

What Will You Learn?

  • By completing this Chemistry module, you will:
  • Gain a strong foundation in atomic theory and bonding principles.
  • Be able to interpret and predict chemical behavior using the periodic table.
  • Understand how atomic and molecular structure determines material properties.
  • Build essential skills for advanced chemistry topics, including reactions, stoichiometry, and thermodynamics.
